The original Jak and Daxter games were a huge success back in the early 2000s. Created by Naughty Dog, Jak and Daxter was a 3D platformer released on Playstation 2. While the original game was a classic platformer, its sequel was a straight up GTA clone, complete with vehicle jacking and a wanted level. Included in the release are Jak and Daxter, Jak II, and Jak 3. Also along for the ride is Jak X: Combat Racing , a spin-off vehicular combat game based on the driving mechanics found in Jak 3 .

As for Jak and Daxter, the series probably did peak in the first game as far as gameplay went, though the characters and story kept me going to the end. Jak and Daxter was pretty much perfect simple 3D platforming, while everything afterwards was a slightly confused attempt to grow the series up to match the changing face of the gaming market.
